new Sinead cover song

From Rocktropolis allstar news:

SINEAD O'CONNOR COVERS HARRY NILSSON FOR YOU'VE GOT MAIL

Since we already know that Sinead O'Connor's Lord doesn't live anywhere near the Vatican, it's only fitting that she cover the Harry Nilsson classic "I Guess the Lord Must Be in New York City" for the upcoming soundtrack to the Warner Bros film You've Got Mail
In addition to O'Connor's take on Nilsson, the Atlantic Records soundtrack also features three songs by the late Nilsson himself, "Over the Rainbow," "Remember (Christmas)," and "The Puppy Song," as well as songs by Roy Orbison ("Dream"), Stevie Wonder ("Sign, Sealed, Delivered"), Louie Armstong ("The Dummy Song"), Bobby Darin ("Splish Splash"), and Peggy Lee ("The Best is Yet to Come") The soundtrack is scheduled for release on Nov 17

You've Got Mail stars Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, two co-workers who hate each other at the office but fall in love over the Internet

O'Connor is currently writing songs for her Atlantic Records debut, with whom she signed an exclusive, long-term contract earlier this year. The album is due sometime in 1999 (allstar, July 8)

Sinead doing Eurythmics

Well, If you think you've seen everything now; Dave Stewart on TFI Friday doing a medley of Eurythmics songs with Kylie Minogue, Natalie Imbruglia and Sinead on vocals, introduced as' a tart, a drunk and an unfit mother'. Sinead was in red dress with a terrible black wig.

Natalie Imbruglia was the tart. Kylie Minogue, the drunk. And Sinead O'Connor the unfit mother. This is what they called themselves during their surprise incognito appearance withrmer Eurythmic Dave Stewart on theBritish television show TFI Fridays.

As backup signers for Stewart's performance, Imbruglia, Minogue, and O'Connor came in disguise in wigs and evening gowns, and instructed the show's presenter, Chris Evans, to introduce them as "The Tart, The Drunk, and The Unfit Mother." The show was taped Friday (Oct. 2) in London and airs Friday night on British Network TV. They performed "Happy to Be Here," the first single from Stewart's new album Sly-Fi, released on the Internet via N2K's Digital Artists label. For more information, visit www.davestewart.com. (Note: N2K is the parent company of allstar.)

Stewart and the lovely ladies also performed a medley of two Eurythmics songs, "Love Is a Stranger" and "Sweet Dreams," with O'Connor singing lead on the latter song. Brian Eno also performed, playing the omnichord on all of the songs. Meanwhile, Stewart is writing new material with Eno, as well as with Imbruglia and O'Connor.' .

In Tua Nua's - Take My Hand On CD

Finally you can buy the first (released) song ever by Sinead on cd. This song, which Sinéad wrote and arranged, is performed by a band called In Tua Nua. The song is titled "Take My Hand". Sinead does NOT sing on the song, but it's special because the song is the oldest song (1984) you can find related to Sinéad.
This song can be found on a compilation CD called "And the craic was good" (released in 1997). It's a hard to find cd, but you can try it at your local shop (if it does imports). To my knowledge there are 2 (exactly the same) cd's. A so-called "cut-out" for about $7 and the standard cd for about $20

Red Hot + Rapsody

Yesterday is in Holland the Gershwin tribute Red Hot + Rhapsody released. On one of the tracks (no. 16) it's our sinead. The song she sings is Someone to watch over me. She did this song before, on the B side of the Success has made a failure cd single, but this is a different recording. The old (B-side version)  was produced by Phil ramone and sinead, this new version is produced by mister Reynolds. They used the old instrumental tape (according to the booklet, instrumental produced by Phil ramone and Sinead, additional vocals production by John Reynolds) and re-recorded her voice.

Sinead in SPIN & PAPER mags

There's a completely new picture of sinead in the september issue (fashion) of PAPER — a new york magazine. there's no mention or caption   crediting the person as sinead, but i'm 100% sure it's her. it's a b/w  pic of her wearing a gown and crouching on the floor, her arms around her legs. she seems to be sleeping soundly. very nice.

Apparently, sinead has posed for mark borthwick, an elusive british photog/artist/poet, famous for his unusually serene pics and who's  coming out with a book called synthetic voices (published by synergy).

And in the november issue of american music rag, SPIN, under the letters section (pg 34), they printed two readers' responses to the sinead article. here they are:

"Sinead never fails to enlighten the downtrodden ["Sinead O'Connor Not a Bad Bastard Anymore," August]. She has emerged as an undeniable voice for women and all of humanity. Her angst toward the status quo shows more bravery than many of her Lilith Fair counterparts will ever confront. And if HIs Holiness has any sense, Sinead's mug shot will sonn hang next to JC's. -- Lewis Leon, Dallas, Georgia

Thank you for the candid and intriguing -- albeit short -- look at one of the greatest artists of our time, Sinead O'Connor. It's great to know how she is doing personally, and what the future holds for her professionally. And as for her "Sinead O'Connor Not a Bad Bastard Anymore Certificate," I wish her the best of luck in earning it (not that she ever needed it). -- Nathan Tong, San Diego, California"

Sinead doing a  CD of poems written by Pope John Paul

Copyright 1998 Times Newspapers Limited
The Times (London)
October 22, 1998, Thursday

BYLINE: Jasper Gerard

SINEAD O'CONNOR has regained the place in heaven she lost by tearing up a picture of the Pope on American TV in 1992. The Irish singer has been asked to narrate a CD of poems written by John Paul.

Robert De Niro had been lined up, but the Pope insisted on dropping him after he was questioned by French police about false allegations that he was involved in a vice ring. "Everything we do has Vatican approval and Robert De Niro does not," says the Italian publisher of the CD. "The Vatican was concerned about the misunderstanding." Ms O'Connor's problems with religion clearly cause less papal concern.

Sinead in Q Magazine

There's a two-page lilith fair write-up by lucy o'brien (the writer who interviewed sinead last year for gospel oak) in the november issue of Q, pg 54 & 55. It's called, “who's driving?”, and it has some illustrations of some more prominent fair maidens: sinead's cutest!!! In the sinead info box, the text, accompanied by a gorgeous new pic of our fair lady, reads:

“Sinead O’Connor
Age: 31
Hails from: Dublin. Nothing Compare 2 U took her to Number 1 in 17 countries in 1989 [sic!], and made her an international star.
Demeanour: Outspoken, honest. Possibly dangerous to know. Has hair now.
How big is she?: 15 million sales over four albums and 1997’s Gospel Oak  EP.
What’s the music like?: Celtic folk, hip hop, reggae beats, out-and-out pop and (even) show tunes.
Sample lyric: “Thank you for breaking my heart/Thank you for tearing me apart/Now I’ve a strong, strong heart.”
Earnest-o-meter: 5 out of 5”

New release dates

In the new ICE Magazine, it has a (U.S) release date of the 10th of November for the original score of The Avengers Soundtrack -- probably nothing of Sinead value, but one never knows.  It would be rather a nice surprise if "Emma's Song" were to be included, but I'm not holding my breath.

Also, the soundtrack for You've Got Mail has been pushed back a week to the 24th of November, and for those as equally anal retentive as myself,  ICE lists the title of her Harry Nilsson cover as "I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City" instead of "...Living In N.Y.C."  Yes, you really  needed to know that, I'm sure.

lilith fair 98 reviews

There's a comprehensive lilith fair reviews archives website at: http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stage/8151/lilithfair.html check it out. It's really interesting because you get to read ’98 reviews by pple who aren't necessarily sinead fans. Some like her, some don't like her, some were surprised by how much fun she was.... basically, you'll get a reasonably good gauge of sinead's current popularity.

Tribute cd by fans

Recently on the Sinéad O'Connor Mailing list (named JITR) fans started talking about creating an unofficial tribute cd. They will record some of Sinéad's songs on their own ways. Time will learn whether this idea will finally become reality (last years the idea has been brought up several times), but this time it looks like it's really gonna happen.

Homepage/discography changes

As you've probably already found out, the homepage got a totally new look. Roman Szendrey and I joined our forces/sources/knowledge or whatever. And created this homepage on http://www.sinead-oconnor.com . Several new things are added from both our previous homepages. We hope you can finally find everything you need to know, or simply want to know about Sinéad.Entirely new and IMO worth mentioning is the redone discography, which is faster as before, easier to use and most of all; it (finally) contains photos of the sleeves. Also a new page has been added, which makes it easier for us all to find all titles of recent and coming releases. If there's still something missing mail us about it.
