Sinéad on a mission again
Banff, Alberta - (CNSI)
In a controversial move, the board of the GWIPP has voted to allow a pack of some 40
Irish Wolfhounds to be set loose in Glacier Park, Montana, sometime in early June. The
measure was pushed through the GWIPP's annual convention in Banff, winning by a scant two
votes. Heavy lobbying by The Celtic Wildlife
League and The Irish Wolfhound Guild of North America led to the narrow victory.
The GWIPP was evidently swayed by a videotaped appeal featuring Sinead O'Connor and
Senator Ted Kennedy, who made a strong emotional case for introducing the hounds. CWL
spokesperson Meg Shannon said that introducing the Wolfhounds into the Glacier Park
ecosystem "...will once and forver settle the
question of whether or not an Irish Wolfhound can actually hunt down and kill a
wolf".
"This is a matter of Irish pride," Shannon went on to say. "The Irish
people have been downtrodden and derided for far too long. This program is a chance for us
to show the world that our celebrated hounds have what it takes to be victorious in any
weather - under any conditions."
Wolves have been extinct in Ireland since about 1600.
A celebratory rally is planned in Banff on March 17.
[later added note by Kipjaz; LOL It was a joke! They're not releasing Irish Wolfhounds in Montana!!!!]

U2 are among the 50 performers set to play at what promises to be the gig of the new
millennium - a 24-hour global concert broadcast live on the Internet on New Years Eve
1999. Eighty national and international TV broadcasters have already pledged to broadcast
parts of the show live themselves. Other performers include STING, SINEAD O'CONNOR, PETER
GABRIEL and ALANIS MORISSETTE, and the POPE and NELSON MANDELA are among a specially
selected group of world leaders invited to deliver messages on that day.

Sinead and Faithless.
from the BBC:
Sinead OConnor is said to be working on tracks for the next Faithless album.
Apparently, OConner is a huge fan of the band and has always wanted to work with
them. The admiration is mutual as faithless have offered to return the favour and do a
couple of track for her album. No date has been set for the new album yet though a remix
album is expected in the summer.

New Davy Spillane collaboration
There's an article in Rhythm magazine (March) about Spillane's CD "The Sea of
Dreams". It refers to Sinead interviewing Spillane (to appear in Interview magazine -
when?) ... there's a report that both Sinead and Spillane "are currently discussing
another joint project, to be worked into both their schedules after O'Connor's next solo
album is finished. This time they plan an equal collaboration (as opposed to a solo disc
by either artist) that would focus on romantic standards - what Spillane terms
"big-heart wrenchers, big love tracks."

New releases update

SINEAD O'CONNOR: NOTHING COMPARES TO (WORKING WITH) YOU SINEAD O'CONNOR,
currently in the preliminary stages of work on her new studio album, is involved in a host
of collaborative projects over the coming months.
Already out in the UK this week is Sinead's contribution to The Chieftains' new album
'Tears Of Stone' on which the veteran Irish folk heroes turn their talents to a selection
of female-based themes. Sinead appears on a track with the band called 'Factory Girl' (not
The Rolling Stones' track) and the album also includes offerings from other female stars
such as Joni Mitchell, Bonnie Raitt, The Corrs, Joan Osborne, Natalie Merchant, Mary
Chapin Carpenter, Diana Krall and Loreena McKennit.
Additionally, March 29 sees the release of a single titled 'Va Pensiero', a duet Sinead
recorded at Abbey Road Studios last year with Italian singer/songwriter Zucchero
Fornaciari. The track is the aria from the Giuseppe Verdi opera Nabucco and will also
feature on Zucchero's 'Greatest Hits' package due out through Polydor on April 12.
Dancefloor pop outfit Faithless, who recently scored a Number Six UK hit with their 'God
Is A DJ' single and made Number 27 with their 'Sunday 8pm' album, are also chasing
Sinead's vocal imprint for a future release. The band have approached Sinead to sing on a
new track for an EP to precede the release of their upcoming re-mix album. A spokesman at
Faithless' label Cheeky says work involving Sinead has commenced on the original recording
but has been adjourned while key personnel in the project take a holiday.
Sinead O'Connor also shows up on the new album from Afro-Celt Sound System entitled
'Volume 2: Release'. Her instantly recognisable vocals embellish the album's first track,
'Release', which runs to an extended seven minutes and thirty-nine seconds. 'Volume 2:
Release' will be in UK stores on April 26 through the Virgin-affiliated label Realworld.
And female US duo The Indigo Girls have been in London earlier this month recording new
material with members of Sinead's band, most specifically with drummer John Reynolds at
his own studio. A spokeswoman for Sinead says she cannot confirm whether any actual
collaborations with Sinead have made it onto tape yet, but did say that O'Connor had been
in discussion over possibilities with the Indigos while they were in town.
Although Sinead O'Connor signed to Atlantic Records over a year ago - following her
departure from Chrysalis after many years and via a short stay with Sony - no material has
yet been released through her new label. An Atlantic spokeswoman confirms that Sinead's
debut album for the label is currently in its early stages but that the singer "has
been busy trying out loads of different things in the studio" including initial work
with Eurythmic Dave Stewart as producer.
Finally, Sinead's recording of 'I Guess The Lord Must Be In New York City' appears as the
final credits roll in the movie You Got Mail which opens in UK cinemas today (Friday,
February 26). The track is also included on the movie's soundtrack CD, also available now.
