June 17th 1998 Boston, USA, Harborlights

by; "Richard Delano"

Saw Sinead wand The Chieftans at Haborlights in Boston last night. It  was a foggy, rainy night. It provided a perfect background for the music, I thought.

Sinead sounded great. The set list matched her other recent set lists,  so I won't bother listing it. I could go on and give a detailed review, but what's  the point? She sounded and looked great! That says it all.

Some highlights:

1) Sinead cracking up throughout most of "In This Heart". Apparently,   according to Sinead, when the bass player (sorry, don't know her name) joined Sinead  at the mike, Sinead pinched her butt. The bass player pinched Sinead's butt in  return causing Sinead to lose it. It took her a while to be able to gather   herself and finish. It was pretty funny to see Sinead being silly. 2) The Davy Spillane song (introduced as "Dreaming of the Bones") was  haunting and beautiful. 3) "Jackie"!! Even though I had seen it on previous set lists, I was   just thrilled to hear it played live. I know she rarely goes back to _The Lion & The Cobra_  album, so it was a special treat. 4) Sinead making the vocal to "Fire On Babylon" look effortless.

All in all a good show, but I have to admit enjoying last years show in   Hampton beach, NH more. I much prefer the smaller setting, plus there  she was the headliner and got a longer set. I also missed the Screaming  Orphans (is that their name?). They really filled out Sinead's live  sound quite nicely.

A thought on the appearance of "Nothing Compares 2 U" in her recent   shows. Could it be that Sinead is basically throwing a bone to her  non-core audience? After all, she's not the headliner at these shows,  so she may just feel the need to offer the crowd something they'd  recognize. I thought she did a pretty nice job with it.

T-Shirts: they were selling Sinead shorts with this summer's dates, not   old ones. I thought I read on here that the t-shirts available at other  shows were from last year's tour. Sorry if this isn't correct, I've  been a little busy to read too faithfully. Damn job always getting in  the way.

That's it. Hope everyone else enjoys the shows from here on in.
